On November 8, 2015 the staff of the Ohlone Monitor assisted to the last edition of the Journalism Association of Community College of Northern California, where our Ex-Editor-in-Chief Mitchell Walthers won Three awards for features (This part needs to be edit), and the Staff of the Monitor won the First Place on the category of Enterprise News/Series category, the award was received for the Photographer, and ex-Photo Editor Laura Gonsalves, and the actual Photo Editor, Ivan Vargas.
The Award was base on the Series of reports about mental health on campus that were published on the editions of April 23 rd, May 7 th, and May 14 th. The series of reports divided in 3 section, talked about what was the impact of mental illness at Ohlone and other college campuses, the second edition about what was being done to improve mental health on campus and in the community as a whole, and the last one was about the future of mental health treatments, and what could be done to increase awareness about this issue.
On this series we count with the help of our actual Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Luis, as a contributing writer, Editor-in-Chief Mitchell Walthers, Sports Editor Albert Rebosura, staff writer Oden D., the Photo Editor Laura Gonsalves, and the photographer Ivan Vargas, but this project would not be possible without the help of our adviser Robert Dennis.
